The Hunger Games
« on: December 30, 2011, 09:44:31 PM GMT GMT »
Having finished the Song of Ice and Fire series I was looking for something with well ...less characters to read.
I quite enjoyed the first book. Vey light reading, but I find that one of its main merits.

I don' really see how it is supposed to be childrens literature, as the plot is quite gruesome at times. I guess it depends on how you define childrens literatures.

Well in a nutshell -without giving away too much- it is set in a dystopian world where the oppressive government televises an event, where each year two kid selected from 12 districts fight to the death (thus my initial confusion at it being marketed as a book for the younger generation).
Just started reading the second book. Its nothing fancy, highbrow etc.. but it is good to kill some time.

It's The Running Man with children in the woods.
"How did you know you weren't really going crazy?"
"The voices in my head kept calling me Bruce."
"Yeah, and?"
"In my head, that's not what I call myself."

the focus of the books is not much on the killing, it's actually quite ok for younger children.

I loved it  :)
