July-Aug '11 Sculptalong - Under The Sea
« on: June 22, 2011, 12:52:08 PM BST GMT »
The scuptalong is back!  For July the theme is sea creatures - from normal, mundane pilchards and crabs to monstrous and weird krakens and deep ones.  The scale/size is old reliable ~30mm, or as close as possible.  Don't forget the sculptalong results will be voted for at the beginning of the next month, too.

Ink's rinky-dink links from the brainstorming thread:

maybe some links for inspiration?
some nice prints in this book, or here - ernst haeckel, more prints of underwater fauna and some photosets on flickr

My own little suggestion: Bogleech.

Despite July looking like it's going to be an AWFUL month for me time-wise, I am still going to try to finally, for the first time ever, actually do this one within the allotted period. I know, I've said that for almost every one... but this time I'm totally serious. I've got a neat concept and I'm excited to try it out. :)

"The voices in my head kept calling me Bruce."
"Yeah, and?"
"In my head, that's not what I call myself."

I'm glad I posted this up early because it completely slipped my mind by July 1st.   Anyone started anything?

I can't settle on and idea to start with. At the moment I'm thinking something based on a weird trilobite or something, but I'm not sure.

There are some really cool trilobites out there I have to say

Well ok, I've had one idea which I may make a start on tonight, but I'm keeping it simple as really I need to be working on other things.

Preferably new sculpt, Mondria.  It's partially the point of the sculptalong. :)

Aah.  Ideas.  Someone needs to do an anomalocaris.  Maybe me.

Or an opabinia.  But it'd be tiny at 28mm.

Month's half-over and I haven't even thought of starting.  Looks like nothing's changed since the break for the comp. :loopy:

Maybe when my nasal passages don't feel stuffed with sandpaper.
